Rated power evidence
How should PV module power tolerance and measurement uncertainty be read?
Separate declared power tolerance, factory test results and measurement uncertainty when reviewing a photovoltaic module.
Short answer
Power tolerance describes the declared range around a nameplate value under the stated test basis. It is not the same as a flash-test result or laboratory measurement uncertainty, and none of these figures should be converted into a field-energy promise.
Rated power evidence
Keep three concepts separate
The nameplate rating, declared tolerance and measured flash value answer different questions. Record each field with its unit, test condition and document source.
Check the exact power bin
Confirm that the serial-number record and test report belong to the ordered model and power class. A family-level datasheet does not identify the measured result of one delivered unit.
Use an agreed acceptance method
Define sampling, equipment, calibration, uncertainty treatment and pass criteria before testing. Differences between laboratories require technical review rather than an unsupported conclusion about product quality.
An acceptance-rule worksheet
State the decision rule before interpreting a laboratory number.
- Product claim
- Exact serial / nominal bin / declared tolerance / condition block / specification source. Do not substitute a family maximum for a unit rating.
- Measured evidence
- Report ID / laboratory / measured Pmax / stated uncertainty and coverage factor / calibration / correction method / timestamp.
- Decision rule
- Record the agreed treatment of uncertainty, sampling and retest triggers; preserve the calculation and authorized acceptance decision.
Record template: replace prompts with project evidence and retain unresolved items. It does not authorize purchase, installation or release.

FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Is positive tolerance extra guaranteed field energy?
No. It describes rating tolerance under the stated test basis, not annual energy.
Can two flash reports be compared directly?
Only after confirming test conditions, calibration and uncertainty.
What controls delivery acceptance?
The agreed specification, contract and approved inspection method.
